Life in Malta vs South Africa

Hello, Hello!

Malta seems like a beautiful place.

If anyone has the time and inclination, id really appreciate some assistance.
Its time to look for an alternative country to live in.
I don't really know where to begin.
Websites and forums I can join other than this one, work? accommodation, schooling?
What town would you recommend and why, could I start a guesthouse?

Welcome to the Forum, you need to visit Malta before deciding to live here to see whether you would like it or not, as a TCN it may not be easy to relocate without a job as you would need visas.

If you have Maltese ancestors try to get the passport due to ancestry. If you have one million 鈧偓鈧偓 Euros you can buy citizenship and create jobs over here. The next option is to propose to a Maltese woman and get married to her in order to obtain residence. If you are married already bear in mind Malta is a catholic place and no Iman over here is allowed to give you a permit for a second or third wife. Of course it is not always easy to get acquainted with foreign shores. If Malta is not the right place because you have only 200 million nairas try to emigrate to Mauritius.

You should visit, there are very active Saffa facebook groups with many people happy to answer questions like this - more than here for sure.

Being from SA certainly prepares you for the borderline 3rd world life here though, I am from Potch and lived in Cape Town and later London - in many ways living in malta is like returning to Cape Town (and many its not).

Hi,

I聽 lived 3 years in Cape Town before moving to Malta 4 years ago.

Please understand that the entire Maltese Islands all together are smaller than Cape town... there are way too many differences and if I start mentioning them this post would be longer than a book. That said, I can tell you one BIG difference: Safety.

There are no electric fences in Malta, no security聽 guards. Crime is extremely low.

Downside in Malta? It's a small overcrowded island聽 with little vegetation. It's becoming a concrete jungle.

The economy is booming in Malta. Jobs are readily available. Public schools and medical system are very good and you don't have to pay for them if you have a job but.. if you look for open spaces, forest, nature you'll get easily homesick. If you have a family, Malta is still a great place to live.

I've just returned from Malta ...

I was lucky enough to get a passport which I collected while I was there. I also added on a Rome trip .... I much prefer Malta. I found Rome dirty, graffiti, over crowded , expensive and the Metro wasn't that great either.

Basically,聽 think I could live there and pricing wasn't *too* bad. Affording a house is going to be tough with our exchange rate though

Once you are living in Malta you can discover Italy and the other countries of the EU. Of course Rome alone does not make Italy. There are better places in Italy. At least the crime rate is much lower over here in Europe. With a maltese passport you can work all over the EU. The borders are open you can travel all over Europe without being checked. Just remember Malta is the exception when it comes to driving. In most of the Eurpean countries people drive on the right.

Just remember Malta is the exception when it comes to driving. In most of the Eurpean countries people drive on the right.

Its just the UK and Ireland also drives on the left.
