Accountant for IRS

We are doing our Portuguese taxes for the first time and we want to hire an accountant. We found an accounting firm who told us they can do our declarations and that all we have to do is to send them the documents proving our incomes and to provide the password for access to the Finanças portal.

I asked if we need to sign any agreement and they said no agreement is needed.

Is this customary? In Canada the accountants used to give me a form to sign where I was agreeing that they gain access to my tax account.

I saw the same online for some accountants in Portugal.

Any advice?...

Thanks a lot for input.

I have used Mariana at Atlantic in Villamoura.

5 years, never met her.

She sends forms, I complete, send by email back, she does my returns in Portuguese for a very fair price.

We have been doing everything that you have said for the last 3 yrs & have not had any problems at all they are all bound by confidentiality privacy laws
