Hi everyone,

I鈥檓 preparing for my upcoming AIMA renewal and wanted to sanity-check the proof of address documents I understand are required, and clarify one point that seems a bit confusing from past discussions.

From what I鈥檝e gathered so far, I believe I need the following:

Rental Agreement (Contrato de Arrendamento) 鈥� Must be registered with Finan莽as.
Rent Receipts (Recibos de Renda) 鈥� Usually the last 3 months are sufficient.
Atestado de Resid锚ncia
Declaration under oath of residential address 鈥� A declaration stating the address and the terms under which I reside there (tenant, owner, subtenant, borrower, etc.). 鈥� This declaration is made by me as the applicant, using the standard template AIMA shown in the link below. Is that correct?

I鈥檝e also seen some discussions saying that when you live as a tenant or lessee, you may additionally need:

A declaration from the landlord (or accommodation entity) mentioning the legal situation that grants the right to use the property.

I鈥檓 a bit unclear on this part and would appreciate clarification on:

Is this always required, or only in specific cases?
Is there a standard template or expected format?
Does it need to be notarized, or is a signed declaration sufficient?
Is this required in addition to the rental contract + rent receipts, or only if one of those is missing?

Based on the above, am I missing any proof-of-address documents that AIMA commonly asks for during renewal?

For your renewal in 2026, the main official source detailing these requirements is an information note from AIMA, published in late 2025, which clarifies the documents accepted as proof of accommodation.

What the official guidelines confirm regarding your questions:

The "Landlord's Declaration": The official guidelines clarify that proof of accommodation requires the submission of the applicant's declaration (the template you already have) AND one of the documents proving the legal situation. In your case (as a tenant), the documents are: Rental Contract (where your name must appear)., Rent Receipt regarding the previous month.

When the Landlord's Declaration is mandatory: According to the 2025/2026 official guidelines, a landlord's declaration with a notarized signature (certified signature) is only strictly mandatory if the contract is not registered with Finan莽as or if the situation is "comodato" (living there for free/loaned property).

The "Property Registration Number" (N煤mero da Descri莽茫o do Registo Predial): Note that the new AIMA orientation (point "a" of the official notice) now requires your declaration under oath to include the property registration number. This number is found on the Caderneta Predial or the Certid茫o Permanente of the property (you can ask your landlord for this or check your contract, as it is usually mentioned there).
