Visa for non-EU wife

jpreston4

Hi all,

I posted a separate thread about health insurance just to keep things organized, but if you didn't see that...

I'm a dual US/EU citizen. Grew up in the US and living there now. My wife is a US citizen.

If we move to Portugal, what would we need to do in order to have her get a visa to stay past 90 days? She works remotely for a US company and does not need employment in Portugal. But she would need some recognition to legally live there I imagine, so please let me know what I'd need to do for her.

Thanks!

I am in a similar situation.  A UK and EU Citizen now with Portugese residence under NHR.
I have an Asian non EU Citizen partner who has a 10 year UK Visa but, as yet, only allowed a 3 Month Schengen one.
After visiting the Portugese Consulate in UK we believe there is an opportunity for her to gain a Long term temporary residency Visa in Portugal under the "Special Terms - Retirement" options which, if successful, would allow her to remain in Portugal for up to 12 months.  We understand this can be renewed and also it allows travel throughout Shengen as a Portugese Resident.
We need to apply via the Embassy in her own country, but have been told there is a reasonable expectation of it being granted.
Will know for sure by October.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards,
Alan.

Ah ok, so it seems like I may have to apply at the US embassy. Thanks
