CTT - Solidarity Campaign

CTT - National Post Offices are organising a campaign to collect clothes, articles and basic goods to help the population of Ukraine.

Between Wednesday and Friday (this week), just go to one of CTT Post Offices, deliver your donation and it will be sent free of charge.

does this also apply to everybody escaping from other wars around the world? "as well as to those who come to our country to escape from this war" seems to refer to a specific war.

Portugal for Ukraine

Portugal for Ukraine聽is an initiative by the Portuguese Government to combine in one place all the actions underway regarding the conflict in Ukraine, in terms of international action, sending humanitarian aid and the integration and hosting of displaced persons in Portugal.

Aiming to give a quick response and forward the citizen requests/offers of help, an automated questionnaire was developed with 5 categories of needs that direct the request/offer of help to the public entity best prepared to respond to the problem presented:

- I'm in need of international protection

- I'm an Ukrainian needing help settling in Portugal

- I'm Portuguese and need help leaving Ukraine

- I'm giving help

- I'm providing jobs

Temporary Protection Regime

The Portuguese government has applied the temporary protection regime to Ukrainian citizens and their relatives who cannot return to their country due to the war situation. The regime also covers citizens of other nationalities residing in Ukraine who cannot return to the country for the same reason.

Portugal created a special protection program for Ukrainian citizens coming from the conflict with the attribution of a Temporary Protection Status, which includes:

- Residence Permit
- Tax Identification Number (NIF)
- Social Security Identification Number (NISS)
- National Health Service (SNS) user number.

These identification numbers give access to health care in public facilities, enrollment in job offers, social protection, among others.
The protection has an initial duration of one year, which can be extended for another year, as long as the conditions preventing people from returning to their country continue to prevail.

SPEAK for Ukraine

SPEAK is an impact startup founded in Portugal in 2014 as a solution to tackle the social exclusion of migrants and refugees. SPEAK connects newcomers and locals through language and culture exchange experiences - key to helping newcomers feel integrated in their new city.

SPEAK for Ukraine gets and provides support to refugees from Ukraine through language and emotional support by connecting refugees, volunteers, and organizations.

I need help: If you're from Ukraine, we are here to support you in any way we can. Take part in language and emotional support groups to help you and your family integrate into your new community.

I want to help: Welcome refugees in your city. Provide translation support for organizations or lead language groups to help refugees from Ukraine integrate into their new communities.

I am an organization: Organizations and individuals can refer refugees, sign up to be connected with volunteer translators from SPEAK's community, and access emotional support groups

The Association of Ukrainians in the Algarve (AUA) has set up a "Together for Ukraine!" logistics center in Faro. Goods collected in the various Algarve locations are sent to this center. Who can inform you better are these associations:

Portuguese for Ukrainians / Portugu锚s para Ucranianos

In this set of fourteen Portuguese non-native language (PLNM) programmes, two teachers, one Ukrainian-speaking and one Portuguese-speaking, introduce the Portuguese language to beginner level speakers and, at the same time, promote Portuguese culture in articulation with aspects of Ukrainian culture. Although it is aimed at students who now integrate the Portuguese school system, this project also targets adult citizens temporarily displaced in Portugal.

Each programme is about fifteen minutes long. RTP's educational platform has recently made available a basic and audiovisual Portuguese-Ukrainian dictionary.
