Several points of issue with your post.

1.  Please follow the Forum Code of Conduct, and DO NOT post personal contact information!

2.  Getting married on a visit visa is typically not a problem.

3.  IGI does not give invitation letters.  Invitations letters come from Romanian citizens/residents which then are merely approved by IGI after being notarized.  They do not need a reason for the invitation, nor can they refuse it based on the prospect of a marriage taking place.  The invitation assures IGI that the person making the invitation will bear responsibility for the foreign visitor if they do not respect the terms of their visa.

I hope someone can give me some insight. My Fiance and I are planning on getting married in Romania. He is Romanian and I am south African. He is currently working on a vessel at sea and Im left to figure this out.

What I know so far

Documents needed (please correct me if there is more)

Certified Birth Certificate (translated and notarized)

Letter of no impediment (translated and notarized)

Divorce decree (translated and notarized)

Medical Certificate from Romanian Doctor

This is my question. Do I apply for a tourist visa and get married, and if I can, may I then apply for a spousal visa without having to come back to South Africa? Or do I have to do a Long Stay Visa?

This is just a wild thought. Will the captain of his vessel officiate the ceremony?

@JohnnyStLouis yes they can. I actually didn't even think about this. Being a photographer on a ship I have photographed many weddings. I would have to look into the legalities. We have actually managed all documentation involved to get married in Romania. But thank you for the suggestion.

Edit - we have to be legally married first. Just checked.

Hi, in my case as well, I am residing now in Dubai but I am Philippine national. I already submitted to the Romanian Embassy here the required documents for visit visa. Last year my fiancé came here and we requested an invitation letter and it was granted and authenticated. Now I am waiting for my application validation.

Thanks for people here, I got a lot of information.

What I learned from here:

First, apply Visit Visa

Second, once arrived in Romania, get married (We prefer Civil Wedding)

Third, apply to Reunification Visa and after that apply for residency permit.

Please correct above, maybe there's some missing points.

The documents I prepared for marriage from my side are my Certificate of No Marriage authenticated from Philippines, my Birth Certificate as well authenticated from Philippines and my passport.

I hope, I can fly to Romania this May and get married with my partner.

After getting married, I applied for reunification visa, once I'll have it shall I get back from my origin or what?

One Filipina I knew, she married Romanian as well, first she applied visit visa and get married in Romania after that she did not came back to Philippines to apply for residency permit.

Your embassy is located in Bucharest and can easily be found with Google Search. I believe you also would need to have your original birth certificate (if my memory serves me well)
