Hi everyone, i've been asked to let you know about my experiences in Health,house and car insurance in Spain.
health insurance: i am cover world wide with Adeslas health insurance, i am very happy with it and the same time i have transport insurance by Helicopteros for whenever i have any accident, they would transport me to the hospital within 10 minutes. why i did that, because calling an ambulance
it would take them more that an hour to come to you.
house insurance: i have Santander Bank home insurance
car insurance     : my car is insured by linea direct English car insurance.
with all these insurances, i am happy and have had no problem so far.

Insurance...

1. Health insurance - haven't a clue as I am a pensioner I am looked after by uk & Spain.  I have a sip card which you have to show when you go to the hospital.  Anyway I wouldn't get health insurance as I have a  pretty existing illness

2. Whatever insurance you get for cars they are all the same I think we have a 5 star car but then we had our car stolen n Saturday and it took them until Monday not to ring us back but to be reminded of our messages and emails. It remains to be seen how our claim goes.  They are al! the same believe me and they think they have the best deals.its not deals you want but service and possibly with a smile so can not recommend anyone.

And please don't mention this but WiFi. I have never seen or heard such crap companies offering WiFi. No wonder Spain is not a country anyone wants to trade with. How can you trade with a company that has siesta. Starts work at 10 and has a bridge day for siestas. I am sitting 6 inches from the WiFi and I can't vet as signal

I am going to start a charm school where shop assistants are taught to be kind to customers   not bon dia with their eyes away from you. If you work in a cafe to earn a tip you smile!!

Well I suppose you are going to try and sell me insurance and the only other insurance is home.  We have just changed that too because of the awful service.

Car Insurances are vetted as being the same all over, NOT SO !  they like you to think that so that you go for the cheapest, therefore it is the majority of cheap policies that flood the market and hence the cover you get is Rubbish. When you buy a car you don't buy the cheapest one on the market because you know t is likely to be a problem. Its the same with car insurance....or any insurance for that matter. Nobody reads the policies because they have so much small print. You need to search around and talk to people that know. ***

Car insurances are NOT the same, we changed ours to 5 star supposed to be and it wasn't cheap. But my partner said if we had stuck with the other company we wouldn't have got a hire car. Cheapest is certainly not the best. But there are differences in agents.   You SHOULD look at the small print of all insurance documents. What I don't agree with is that you have to carry all your car documents in the car with you - (although that is decided upon what guardia you meet)  our car documents were in the car, and so was a spare key to the house.  We have now the problem of getting the lock on the front door changed.  Its like, someone advertising you can get 12pc income and your investment will grow 5% a year.  ha ha.
Even Agents can be more helpful from town to town for the same insurance company, but you learn as you go along.  Then you go back home to England and laugh about it (not)

Our experience is not so good.  We lived in Istanbul before and had a health insurance policy with Clement.  It was expensive with $2500 deductible per person and cost us about $8000 per year for two retired people ages 61 and 65.  Here in Spain, as Americans with a non lucrativa visa, we need insurance with zero deductible.  We signed on with DKV for about $450 per month for two.  Price is good, but they are declining many of our requests for care due to pre existing conditions...when they weren't pre existing.  My husband hurt his back as we moved, and they won't cover the therapy.  We are beginning to expect that this will be what we face anytime we need medical care.  We are looking at other providers, still needing the zero deductibility for our visas/tarjetas de residencias.

Hi Ginny, that's too bad you have a bad experience with Health insurance. i am trying just to help you the way i did that. well, i live in Andalucia and i do not know how it is in Catalonia.here we go, i am with Adeslas health insurance and i pay only 164 Euro a month which is in a year only 11 month, one month is free. i am insured world wilde and am cover full with private room and  hospital. i have to visit only doctors who are working with Adeslas then , i do not have to pay anything, unless i visit another doc and then i have to pay cash and insurance pay me back.
as for residency, i had it within 5 minutes, i just went to international police and paid 10 euro and got my residency. no idea how it works in Catolonia! well,may be i am Swiss passport holder and make it easier.any way good luck with all

I am 58 and i have had a private medical insurance in Spain for 20 years now. I only pay 64 Euros a month and as the company i am with only deal in the Alicante area i wanted something that covers me in all areas. I am now moving across to a company called DKV which can provide me with the full package for under 100 Euros. i used insurance in spain.com and they set it up very quickly and i got them to call me from their website... i don't pay for doctors visit and they pay 100% of anything i need except prescription drugs.

Well now is the time for reflection.

We finally not coche back. We were telephoned at 7 in the morning by the police to say our coche was in a compound in Alicante (there are 2) the compound was packed with vehicles. Despite most of the contents gone and a smashed window we were glad to see him back.

If this happens to you. Be prepared for a complicated journey to get yr car back. Back and forth to the various police stations, fingerprints at another police station. But you have to find them first. We took a translator, it was quicker than waiting to try to find the right words....the girl in the insurance office was there for advice although I think We were doing this in the dark most of the time. The compound was miles outside of Alicante and took some finding.

I can honestly say that the experience with the insurance company was good. They chose hertz rent a car - they spoke most languages - couldn't have been better help.

Now we are preparing our list of contents that have gone!!  What did they do with my maps, fans and lipstick!!!!  I expect our camera binoculars beach chairs have been taken to a car boot!!

Yes an experience. Just one last tip. There is an app on the internet that you can download and it opens vw and Skoda cars immediately.I don't know of othe

Perhaps one should look at the reasons for healthcare. There are a number of excellent accident policies on the market. For as little as 127 Euros a year one can get cover for accidents that happen anywhere. Yes i appreciate this is not medical insurance in the event of illness but one must be aware that most hospital visits are not due to medical issues but from accidents, falls, working in the garden, skiing, cycling, hiking, tennis and a whole host of our hobbies that could result in injuries . So this takes the worry out of having an accident, even in a car. Such things as death due to an accident provides up to 100,000 euros of cover, same for permanent disability and all healthcare expenses are covered due to an accident. things like travel and home assistance is covered. So its worth looking around to find policies that cover this sort of thing and then one can reduce the cover needed on Medical insurance so that it just covers medical or illness. Pre-existing conditions will always be an issue as non of the insurers wants to take on something that is more than likely to cost them  money from day one.  With accident and leisure policies age is of no concern and you can rest assured that you have cover in the event of any accident.

My husband and I have Spanish health insurer Sanitas. We used an attorney to help with our visa. Through her she set up a spanish bank account with Sabadell. Payments are automatically withdraw from our bank account. We pay €159 a month for both of us. The few times we've gone to our local clinic have been positive. They reimburse for drugs and cover us for travel back to the United States. They are in partnership with Blue Cross.
