Moving cats...

Hi! Has anyone done this recently? I have two cats and we were hoping to ship them alone after my husband got an apartment but before I moved from here in the US. It looks, though, like RJA assumes they are accompanied. Also, does anyone know the actual fee range for RJA? They say it will be extra baggage charge, but that sounds like one would be $175 and the other would be $250.. and I have a feeling it's just not quite that easy. Thanks!

聲Animal Quarantine

There are no regulations about bringing pets into Jordan, and the most you may be asked for is a certificate of health for the animal.

This quote I have it from the government site.
In Jordan we have several good vets just in case you need it.

About the charges to bring them over: ask the airline you will be flying.

HI,

How about calling the office at the airport you plan to leave from, or the office where you got the tickets from! I think they will be glad to help...

That is what I was doing

聽 They seem to have shut down the Chicago reservations number.聽 We usually book online because we aren't anywhere near RJA.聽 I have also tried e-mailing.

I did finally get the NY office cargo number to work (but not their reservations) and cargo says they charge $24.50/kg, with a minimum of $225.聽 So that is for shipping them as air cargo.聽 But still no idea about the accompanying fee.聽 RJA website mentions weight versus extra baggage costs, but like I said-- extra baggage is tiered and so it's kind of unclear.

You could call the reception at the airport, they should be able to give you the telenumber of your office of departure.

According to my experience, the RJA are tolerant and represent a excellent customer service. You could mention that you intent to move to Jordan. I found the following info on the RJA webpage:

We're trying to find out what are the actual fees for bringing cats on RJA accompanied and unaccompanied.

Thanks!聽 Although I already read the RJA site and it doesn't answer that question.聽 That is where they mention it being charged as extra baggage, but don't discuss the tiered pricing of extra baggage in relation to multiple animals, or if they are actually just charging that air cargo minimum for animals ($225), and if it varies by weight.聽 They only give the weight and time restrictions for in cabin and then say how many falcons you can have, and then go on to give the checked option with the aforementioned information.聽 I asked on their facebook page, and they may be finding the answer for me.聽 We'll see!聽

Re: calling the airport for the number, the airport has the same numbers as the disconnected and constantly busy ones-- so not a help there.聽 It may take breaking down and calling Jordan if the FB people don't get back to me.

Well, it doesn't state if they will be charged by weight.聽 It also doesn't state if they are employing the tiered system of excess baggage charges.聽 If they are changing by weight and kennel size (which seems logical and is how they price their air cargo) it doesn't state what the rates are.

It says the weight of an animal should not exceed a certain amount of kilo. It says the pet will be considered as extra baggage! It even mentions the kind of pet you say you want to ship!
It also says Approval is required!

The kilo weight on that page is for in-cabin.聽 They will not be going in-cabin.聽 Please note that in-cabin is only for flights 5 hours and less.聽 Chicago to Amman is 11-12 hours.聽 Also no one would want to hear the siren of my cats serenading them for that whole time, even if it was only 5 hours.

Extra baggage for the first bag is $175.聽 Extra baggage for 2-5 bags is $250.聽 Extra baggage for 6+ bags is $400.聽 I am trying to be sure that that is what they mean-- that there would be two different charges for 2 animals.聽 One cat is 30lbs.聽 The other is 15lbs.聽 So there is the potential that if they charge the two amounts and don't worry about weight because that falls within the baggage weight, that works out great.聽 But from someone who did it in 2011, I found out they said RJA went straight for the second tier of baggage fees and also charged by weight and size.聽 That is not mentioned on there.聽 But it wasn't mentioned in 2011 either.聽 So the question then is are they still doing that?

I would ask the airport since it is a airport matter. If nobody at all can provide a valid/working airport telephone number as you say, there is probably no airport!!

OK.聽 I am fairly sure O'Hare exists, although I haven't been there this year.聽 I would think it's disappearance would make the news though.

I mentioned there is one number for reservations in the US and it has been consistently busy, each time I've tried it, for the past few weeks-- multiple times/day.

There is really no reason to be upset with me about this.
