Hi rizi.聽 聽Riyadh and jeddah both r diff. Riyadh is boring,but calm place. Can get average schools, good hospitals normal shopping malls and about socialization it depends where u live in riyadh.... Now come to jeddah .. Noisy place..good shopping... Can find activities for kids easily. Socialization is less low hospitals. Average schools... Overall i still rate jeddah more....

Go Jeddah ,I hate Riydah ,too Crowded you spend Avg 2 Hours at Least Driving Back & Forth to work Only ..

When you see some Saudi women not covering their heads in coffee shops or openly undoing their abayas in public, this says a lot about a seaside culture. Jeddah is Saudi's Dubai.

Another vote for Jeddah

When I first read the topic, in my mind I just went "You didn't not just ask that!". But it seems no one has been defending Riyadh so far. If you had asked the same question in a forum full of Saudis, you'd have started a virtual war of words between Riyadhites and Jeddahwis

I definitely vote for Jeddah but I disagree with someone that said there is less socialization and lower-quality hospitals in Jeddah.

Jeddah has some life. As simple is that.

Riyadh Vs. Jeddah

Riyadh:

聲Schools, you have more options for international schools where western kids go and more Embassies supervised schools. (ok education)
聲Social life, much bigger compounds so more parties and social activities and all embassies are there so lots of embassies organized social  activities ( if you have access to them).
聲Compounds are big, nice and with luxuries  options
聲The city is a much bigger city ,so long driving hours.
聲Streets are clean, wide and organized. The houses are big and you can see 聯money聰 everywhere in the city.
聲Big shopping malls, but boring and not lively.
聲Hospitals, 70% MOH, 10% third party and 20% Private. MOH hospitals are waaaaaaaay waaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better in Riyadh than in Jeddah, but as a none Saudi you will not have access to them. Private ones are good equipped and newish.
聲Life style, there is something in the air that makes you not wanting to run free.
聲Much cleaner city, much organized.
聲Weather, very hot and very dry (oven dry) in summer 45-50C.. mild to cold winter (sometimes below zero). Big sand storms in spring.

Jeddah,

聲You have the Sea, you can go swimming at private beaches
聲Schools, many international schools, but three only where western students go ( one American and two British) and As far as I know only German and Italian consulates are having schools here. (Ok education).
聲You have the Sea, you can go snorkeling
聲Social life, closed circles of parties and social life and hard to break into them.
聲You have the Sea, you can go diving
聲Compounds are not as big and they are old with long waiting lists.
聲You have the Sea , you can go in boat trips
聲Big disorganized City with horrible streets and many old building.
聲You have the sea, you can have a walk at the Cornich
聲Big lively shopping malls, centers and Souqs.
聲You have the sea, you can go and suntan
聲Hospitals, 25% MOH, 5% third party and 70% Private. Private ones are good, but old and supposedly better staffed than the ones in Riyadh.
聲You have the sea, you can have a coffee at starbuck, Costa or Coffee Republic there in the seafront.
聲Tons of environmental problems.
聲You have the sea, you can watch the romantic sunset.
聲The Weather is hot in summer time 38-45C could reach 50 for few days, hummed but nothing like Dubai and other gulf cities. Lovely winter 28-34C. Dry and Jeddahwies stopped praying for rain since the city does not have a rain-drainage system.
聲You have the Sea, you can enjoy the many sculptures and art work throughout the Cornich and the city.
聲Great  restaurants of many international cousins, and let聮s not forget that Jeddah has AlBaik.
聲Did I mention that you have the Sea ?

Non of them, They are both crowded and very hot weather , But i suggest Riyadh

I'm living in Riyadh for a few months now, but everybody is telling me Jeddah is nicer.

if you go to Riyadh you will feel very bore Riyadh is a city for ppl who work and eat and sleep there is nothing for entertainment.
in the End Jeddah it will be the best option.
