Stuck in female only compound!
My thought is that expats can have very different experiences in KSA, depending on their personality types.
Alliecat wrote:Btwn-Fear-N-Hope wrote:This sounds so depressing. Hope you meet some nice people soon. Do you think single females outside of compounds have it easier or worse?
And why can't two people (or more); who recognise they are from the same part of the world or speak the same standard of English; not strike up a conversation inside a mall?
I've struck up conversations with other western women inside malls, Jarir, etc., but usually it amounts to nothing because they don't need any new friends (it works the same at home; for example, if you change cities it's difficult to meet new people because their lives are established and they don't have the time or desire to form new friendships).听
Here in KSA, unfortunately friendships are often formed solely on what people can do for each other.听 If you have nothing to offer (ie. you're not on a western compound--you're not promiscuous--you're not wealthy), you're out.
It sounds harsh and I'm sorry.听 But I've seen this play out time and again.

its nice to know some of you understand what its like!
If i could just go out now and talk to a group of people in a mall and say hey wanna meet up with me and my friends then i would but i think it'd come across very weird!!!lol
I have made some good friends here and we are having fun and been to a few parties etc and i'm sure in time we will meet many new people. I just wanted to post on here in case anyone was looking to meet up at the beach or anywhere, we are all normal girls haha and definately not out to steal anyones habibi's hehe i liked that comment![]()
Just fun people looking to meet other fun people

I am imagining I will be in your exact same situation or worse when I arrive. Let me know if you'd like to get to know each other a bit so if we hang out when I do come it won't feel so weird.

really it's a nice Blog lol

AllieCat how r you, i think in Riyadh you can't have fun like in Jeddah because they are very strict there comparing with Jeddah

If you come to Dammam /听 Khobar, you will be abducted
Great demand for diving instructors
Thank you for this Information

but there is a lot of Instructors also in Dammam
I've been here a week and already been to a real party... with special water.
If you make the effort to socialize you'll be ok. I've turned into the yes man.
I'm exhausted but happy.

Kat2404 wrote:We do go out regularly but you cannot exactly meet new people in malls etc as it is not allowed, hence why i posted this, so it does not happen as naurally as it would do notmally apart from at the beach.
Like i said we only live with people we work with, there is no one else in our compound apart from collegues
Hey add me on your facebook we can be friends

So what you saying is that we can not meet some people there and simply invite them to our home or go together out? It sounds ridiculous, i thought the Jordan is boring but now after reading this post i am not so sure about that. Is that really situation there? Because we like to meet new people and to go out, organize BBQ, listen loud music, dance......... Will that be problem in KSA? If yes i should call employer.
It's not a problem if you're married but it IS a problem for singles to try to hang out.
just saying

Or a gay man
YES !
You can meet whoever you want in a lounge, restaurant or in the mall. We do it all the time. Believe me no one will stop you!!! just dress in moderate(Abaya)and act reasonably. You don't need to stick to the compound. Go out, discover the city and meet some new friends.
Only one point to keep in mind:there is no problem whatsoever to meet friends(male and female) in public specially as a western but its risky to approach people that you don't know at all in public.
In addition to restaurants & cafe's, you can also socialize in various amusement parks (though there are very few here) by the beach; at various networking events / exhibitions; a couple of parks on Andalus Street (average experience); other compounds.
Anyway I'm shocked cause I have attended dozen of parties held at compounds by westerns, I have been & seen westerns in 2 pc bikinis in Jeddah in private beaches. Have you guys been to Durrat el Arros or any such a like resort?!
PS: if you keep a low profile in here, you could get away with anything!!
Adios!!!
idk why foreigners have a hard time to contact with saudis parties ppl ? and they all get disappoientd and get depressed and they cant wait to leave the country ! am not alcholic or something like that but im just saying if you dont drink in public or make a problems then youre fine they wont try to ge you
youre ok as long as you dont disrespect the low in public ! some ppl want to make out in the mall lol hey thats one of the things you cant do here lol some wants a bars or night clubs that will not happen lol and i think most saudis agree and i do i dont want ppl drunk in the street or drunk drivers we have already crazy drivers without drinks lol im just saying find the right ppl
good luck ppl and enjoy your stay

Freshlikesushi wrote:this is true
at least gay ppl here hide so good and respect or better be听 afraid of others and they dont makeout in malls and make ppl especially kids look at them and throw up lol this is one of our freedome to raise our kids to be normal human beings and teach them whats wrong whats right and who they are and not to leave them in certain age for what we call a human wolfs to change their beliefs (no offense) thats how we are and if you compare it with other countries oh wow i hope you study it and know how much it effects communities with a lot of psychologicl and health problems .
but you have a freadome of speech and we have it too;) im not with or against homesexualty ( more gays means more girls for me lol) but for real i dont want it to be in my kids in futuer when i get marred and have kids听
i hope you get it im not here to fight im here to clarify some wrong common beliefs or ideas

all respect
I lived with guys I love my guys friends i say it I LOVE the guy cuz he is a real guy not to sleep with him lol it's just deferent culture ! You may never will get it if you don't grow up with it ! And how you say someone can be homesexual and then changes to be normal !! That can not work ! I'm not saying there is no gay or lesbian ppl here no there is I'm 100% sure ! But we believe that if a guy hangout with girls a lot he would copy them or be girly guy and if a girl hangout with guys can make her听 copy them and be lesbian ! That may effect young ppl more ! The thing is I see a lot of boys wearing skinny pants or some shitty clothes here its just the media change them they don't know why they were it and who wear it in other countries ! The same with girls but that doesn't mean they are homesexual ! I sit with a lot of them I ask them a lot of question I swear the answer was the same ! They don't know why they thought its cool hahah and that's funny but I don't consider it as big problem like it is in other countries and they still think its not a problem cuz they can't stop it ! And if you look in our history we were like that long time ago like 100 s of years ago if that was exist we all be gays and lesbian by now lol
how can it be a mental problem whenever they do surgeries for the special parts and they start thinkin that they are not who they are
Momo Ajmi wrote:That's right but when or who do that !!!! Straight guys or girls can do this whenever they have a lack of self-confidence or lack of education of who they are In realty ! They are just lost in that point and they wont be straight anymore in my point of view!听 trust me it will bigger problem if they see it in streets and tv and malls !听 I consider this a problem it may develop and be a mental health problem and then it will be hard to fix

I have to disagree with everything you've said because I don't think a person chooses to be gay--research indicates it's genetic and I believe that.
and I really can not change beliefs if its strong like that and when it comes to god ! I respect you and your opinions and its really interested to learn more about others
and I like your thinkin and you're really smart I'm happy that you wrote me back and thanks for your patient
Momo Ajmi wrote:Here we have to agree that we don't believe in the same thing and I said god won't do mistakes but you听 disagree and believe god do mistakes by creating those ppl in wrong way cuz they suppose to born to as deferent sex

I don't think God made a mistake. I think we can agree that God doesn't make mistakes--so that means he made people this way deliberately.听 It's up to us to understand why
I respect your opinions--I know that Islam has very strict views on many things.听 Discussions such as these are how we all learn what others think and there's nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree
