This is what I have done for many years as an expat...
I research a community then make a contact/s.
This gives me a feel for the place where I will be living and gives me an avenue to have my questions answered anonymously: This reduces my stress and worry load.
Now in less than a week I will be socialising at JillnDave's bbq.. further establishing myself here...
These pointers are part of the survival skills to being a successful expatriate (it's also part of my job here in Riyadh)
