American retiree moving to Canada

I am a retired US schoolteacher thinking of repatriating to Canada. I would probably stay fairly close to the US border and continue to get my healthcare in the US. I don鈥檛 need much, I don鈥檛 want to take anything from Canada except enjoy its freedom and it鈥檚 beauty. I鈥檓 pretty self-sufficient and am wondering what towns within 100 miles of the US border would be appealing for a retiree. I prefer a town under 100,000. I鈥檓 hoping to get some answers here. Thank you so much.
