For me, I am just US>Canada, and has been here for less than one year. Not sure how long will I stay here. But one thing I am sure, I will not stay here for all my life! LoL
Will join you guys if I need any help!
My name is Mazhar. I'm currently working as a Electrical Design engineer in dubai, I'm originally from Hyderarbad India, My company is planning me to transfer to Canada for next assignment which could be a long term contract,my office location is in montreal, I heard so many positive and negative things about staying in montreal and working there in montreal. I just wanna know, how is the living standard, how much expenditure shall i have to bare if i am planning to s stay with my family, I joined this forum to know much more about the place in order to start planning to move from here.
Please advice me
It's Krish from India! I work as Electrical Engineer here, and I want to move to Canada for better opportunities. I have Master's Degree in Electronics and Control Engineering. I have gone through the official immigration website for Canada which is the CIC Canada but that is a bit confusing. I'm considering FSW and PNP programmes. Has anyone here applied for CANADA under FSW or PNP recently with the new rules in effect(since May 2014)? If so please do guide me! Your support and guidance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Krish
Mind me asking what age range are you? e.g. 20-25 / 26 - 34 / 35 - 45
And also how many years of working experience do you have under your belt? This will determine your points and chances of getting approve.
CIC just introduced an express entry system. Its rather new and I personally have no clue what and how that's going to come about. I applied via PNP. PNP's are fast track. And if you already have a job in Canada, your approval is even faster. However fret not, if you do not have a job offer yet - you can still proceed with applying but you'll have to see if your occupation is in part of the list of jobs that Canada needs. This changes from time to time.
Btw, FSW and PNP, PNP is usually easier depending on the province. If you apply for PNP under popular provinces such as Ontario or BC, then you might have to wait slightly longer as the volume of applicants to this provinces's PNP are higher than others. Tip 1: When you apply for a provinces PNP, you are not made to stay in the province. You can always settle elsewhere if you can't find a job when you enter that province. However, do not express that desire or intention until you get your PR.
Tip 2: Use a good immigration lawyer. From my experience a good lawyer will be able to be your second eye to help you navigate the sea of information, policies and procedures that can be frighteningly overwhelming.
This site gives you an idea of the cost of living
Typically when you pay taxes, healthcare is free. Education for children should be free unless you send them to private. However you have to send to school that nears the place you stay, so pick the place you stay properly. You may want to know which school you want to sent them to, then pick the place you want to stay. Montreal is a large city. Lots of choices with stores for groceries, clothing, etc. So price shouldn't be too high. Of course, things are more expensive downtown. Unlike other places, Montreal is different from other Canadian cities because its French base, however its better than Quebec City as there's some anglophone there as well.
Also, if you come with your children and reside in Canada with you, you may apply for UCCB (Universal Childcare Benefit) for them see
Thank you for that reply! I am 27 years old and I've been working as an Electrical Engineer for more than 2 years but less than 3. I have done my Master's from UK. And regarding the occupation list for FSW, my occupation has its place on the list. I think the occupation code is 3156( I don't remember it exactly though).
As per the norms for FSW, I'll have to reach a total of 67 points to be able to get a visa under FSW. I'm not sure if I will be able to get that many points! Would you be able to guide me regarding the points' calculation please? I find the point calculation a bit tricky!
And regarding PNP, I am considering the province of Nova Scotia, for which the applications will start from Jan 2015.
Right now I'm unable to decide whether to go for FSW or PNP. FSW has a limit of 1000 applications for each occupation and the total number of applications will be 21,500.聽 But for Nova Scotia PNP, it only allows 300 applications and we don't know if that number will be increased for the coming season!
Please do guide me regarding this!
Thanks,
Krish
聽 聽 聽 Please kindly inform to you I m mukesh from Nepal .now I m working in Kuwait at the gaucho grill .so how can I find job in canada .and how can I apply.
Immigrating to Canada is never an easy deal. I have no sense of what the job market is like for an EE guy here in Hali / NS. But jobs are more abundant in Alberta, I can bet you that. I know my job area - IT is growing here in Halifax.
Also, when you embark on this journey $ is a huge investment and not to mention time as well. I would recommend that you seriously look into matters first e.g. if you have deep pocket to bear with the financial aspect of it. Infact I would as far as to say make sure you get a good immigration lawyer to ensure that you don't loose that investment. So, budget lawyer fees as well. From my experience - I have attempted it twice. My first attempt I did not use a lawyer and I got rejected. The second time I did use one and things work out better.
I am a Computer Systems Engineer who has been in Montreal for 5 months now. Its great to be in this city.
Every weekend is all about discovering this city and trust me , every new trip is just awesome. This city in undoubtedly a perfect place to life.
I'm looking to make friends here as my social circle is limited to the people I work with only. Anyone up to discovering this city or going for a hike on Mont Royal ?

My name is Adil, Iam from Quebec, Montreal to be precise; i work as manager at the city of montreal specially in public transportation. Iam just curious about moving to Qatar. The canadian winter is killing me! and Qatar is one of the top 3 destinations.

Don't give up!! Summer is such a wonderful time to explore Toronto, meet people and make new friends!
When I first moved here I went straight to meetup.com, found the Brit Meetup and others where I could meet people and find new things to do in the city. I really recommend you try it out.

I am Tusher Imran.I am living in bangladesh.i want to live canada.
Currently I am living in Dhaka, Bangladesh and having 6year+ experience in Corporate Finance in Telecommunication sector. I am a BBA graduate majoring in Finance and doing CIMA [ Chartered Institute of Management Accountants] (so far Level-2 has been completed).
I am exploring my opportunity in Ontario (Toronto, I hope). I got Bangladeshi Grad degree and CIMA-Advance Diploma in Management Accountants. What are my options in Ontario after I move here along with my wife. Do I have to get a diploma or something to get a Corporate Finance/ Financial Analyst job? or I have to do other things?
I am planning to complete my CIMA in Bangladesh before moving to Canada, but what if I want to do a entry level job in Ontario and continue my rest of the CIMA study in Canada.
I would appreciate some realistic suggestions. Thank you.

You are best to contact universities who specialize in this type of education then find out costs. Then apply for a student visa. The university may assist you in giving information about how to apply for the visa.
