03/09/25 @roddiesho.  That can be frustrating, but I don't think that you have anything to worry about for several good reasons, the most important one being that if Amazon BR rejected the transaction because the credit card didn't match the accountholder's name, then there is no transaction. I strongly doubt that they've kept your card on file or that there's anything they can do with it, or would try to.

If you want to use Amazon BR in your own name with your own cards, consider sitting with the secretary and feeding her your information as she works the keyboard to set up your account. I would also suggest getting a Brazilian credit card from the bank where you have an account.  Brazilian banks are stingy with their credit limits, so that will automatically limit your losses at a pretty low level if your card get's scammed.  I have a Visa Ourocard from Banco do Brasil that I only use for Amazon BR and Mercado Livre.  The limit is ample for our monthly purchases but low enough to be a protection, and my US cards are never exposed.

If you’re familiar with Amazons app in the USA,  the Amazon app in Brazil is almost identical in form and functionality. I installed the Brazilian Amazon app on an old Android phone I had laying around and created a separate account in Brazil using my cpf and address here. This way Amazon and I don’t get confused by me switching regions in the APP on one phone. I have minimal issues navigating around the app and making purchases etc.. And believe me my portuguese is very basic. If I were you I’d set up an account and do it myself. Then if you have issues, ask for assistance from your wife or the secretary. You might want to try a test purchase first to make sure there’s no hiccups. A 12 pack of batteries or some dish detergent, something useful. When you checkout they’ll ask for your credit card info or you can PIX the payment or pay via Boleto (I always use PIX). Anyway, Amazon is a reputable company. I’m sure the payment didn’t go through because of the name mismatch. They probably didn’t know who’s cpf to associate with the transaction. I know the frustration of depending on others for these daily diddies….

@bepmoht @abthree I want to thank the two of you. I am going to try a combination of the two. Basically, I am going to set up an account myself. I could not remember Mercardo Livre, so I am going to check to see if they have similar products.

FYI, my wife is going to Fortaleza with my daughter and mentioned something that I do not remember. The two of them were considering buying an apartment in Fortaleza to rent out or use.  Not my idea, I am a lot more frugal with my money, but if I were to help them then what am I talking about pricewise, location etc.

Regarding Amazon.com I have just been navigating to the .com.br version and log in with my typical US account credentials.  It knows me already (carried over my payment methods, addresses, etc.)  I just had to add the Brazilian address.  It keeps a separate set of wishlists, order history, etc.  Also my "prime" doesn't carry over, but I just make sure to order enough to get free shipping so it still works out ok.

Ferrreira Costa may be another option for online shopping, depending on the items you're looking for.

Mercado Livre has a very good selection, including many of the same products and some products at better prices and/or more convenient package quantities than Amazon BR. 

The annoying thing about Mercado Livre, at least for people like you and me who don't live in the "Sul Maravilha", is that their "frete grátis" can and often does suddenly change to "frete descontado" after their system reads your CEP. At the very least, you have to doublecheck that to be sure that what you thought was a good deal ends up being one. 

Amazon Prime doesn't pull that scam:  free shipping is free shipping, everywhere in Brazil.

03/09/25 @John_D.  Use of the same Amazon account across both platforms is news to me, but it stands to reason that in the seven years since I had to set up a separate account for Amazon BR, they've improved interoperability.  How do they manage your Kindle Library/Libraries?

Good question on the Kindle side.  I checked Amazon BR just now, Your Account, Content Library.  There's a banner/message that my content is managed on Amazon.com, with a link that directs me there.  So it looks like I have to use the US version to access my Kindle library.

I jadded my Brazilian address and a Brazilian credit card to my Amazon account and have been using Amazon for purchases in Brazil.

Interesting!  In 2017 I had to set up a separate account (different email addresses) for Amazon BR, the libraries are separate, and I have two Kindles.  They both have books in English and Portuguese on them, but they're different books, I suppose because of regional copyright controls.  When I buy a book on Amazon US it's delivered to my US Kindle no problem, but only if my US address is showing as default on the account.   If my Brazilian address is showing as default (as it might be if I've recently bought a physical product and had them send it), I get a "Cannot Deliver to Your Country" error message.  That disappears as soon as I change the address.

Just a side note about Amazon orders from the USA account vs using a Brazilian account. By default from my experiences when ordering using my USA account, items shipped to Brazil  are shipped using DHL and Loggi. While faster, this adds a significant cost. The orders shipped to Brazil using my Brazilian account use Skypostal and Correios. Here’s one example for the difference using a 10 yard roll of Duck Tape as the item. Of course each item varies but this illustrates the difference.

@abthree Unless you get scammed by DHL / Import - Customs. I placed my original Amazon. Com order to my home in Brazil on January 15th. I now have officially given up...March 17th., three months later.

1. 1st I discovered that they were cancelling and refunding the money because there was damage to the shipment (no one told me - I happened to be checking the websites.
2. 2nd. I had to wait a Full Month before I could get the refund and order again.
3. 3rd. On my 2nd. order, along with the typical DHL nonsense they tried to OVER CHARGE ME... Amazon. Com charges ALL Import fees in advance, however now DHL / Customs claimed there were additional fees to pay.  Amazon. Com offered to refund me the extra, but as I was working out the payment the order went from a holding site in Fortaleza, where it usually stops to be picked up by a local delivery to Sao Paulo.
4. DHL / Import Customs had given up waiting and was sending it back via Sao Paulo headquarters.

At this time, I officially gave up on the order and told Amazon to forget about it. Of course, protocol says Amazon. Com will not even start the refund until the 20th. after the initial delivery date of the 19th.
