Work permit or a student visa - how was your experience?

emeraldoor

Has anyone gotten a work permit or a student visa? How was your experience?

There are dozens of websites with general information, but not with more details.

For example:

When should you get the background check? How long is it valid for? Does Brazil require that it be from the last three months, or six months or something else?

How long did it take for you to obtain?

How much money should you show for proof of funds for the student visa? Has anyone been through the process? How long did it take?

For the work visa, what steps did you go through?

04/27/26 @emeraldoor.  Income requirements for Student Visas/Authorizations for Residence aren't specified.  The income requirements for a Digital Nomad visa (income of US$1,500/mo. or more, or US$18,000 in a bank account) or a Retirement visa (income of US$2,000/mo. or more) would probably be considered sufficient.

For a Work Visa or an Authorization for Residence Based on Employment, you'd need to be sponsored by a Brazilian employer for approval by both the Justice Ministry (Polícia Federal) and the Labor Ministry.

The PF generally want a criminal background check to be no more than 90 days old, but they sometimes are flexible on that on foreign documents.
