Google Fi phone service good in Brazil?

Hello, ex-patriots!

I have heard that Google Fi (a service I use here in the States) works well in Brazil.

Anybody have any thoughts on that?

I also understand that one should switch away from Google Fi to use a less expensive, native service... thoughts?

Thanks in advance, obrigado, tenha bom dia, boa tarde ou boa noite!

You can minimize your dependence on a US cell number if before you move you transfer the two-factor verification for as many of your accounts as possible from a phone number to an Authenticator app.聽 Social Security (both login.gov and ID.me) accept that, and so do many financial institutions and online services.聽 Sometimes they won't show it on their sites, but it's available if you ask.

@alexanderstephenlange I haven鈥檛 used Google Fi, but I get good coverage with Popcorn Mobile. Unless something has changed, I recall my friend needing to be in the US every 3 months or have his service suspended with Google Fi. Popcorn is designed to be an international plan, so I鈥檝e had no issues and I鈥檝e had good service in the US, Brazil, Panama, and Ireland so far.

google fi is spot on but if you dont visit usa every year or such some folks service may get abruptly snipped. However if your on one of their flex plans they dont care so much and as long as your not abusing bandwidth ( sits around 20g per month ) for netflix and stuff you can retain the US number.

However - if you have a phone that supports e-sim and you have lets say a xiaomi phone you can plunk the phones geolocation to your house in USA聽 and just have a vpn always on and you will never suffer this fate!

Good info, thanks! I will keep Google Fi for a while but then switch to another service in Brazil....

yeah helps - if your staying down and in the NE depending on the area you can look at TIM - claro tends to fib / exaggerate their coverage maps - avoid vivo or oi

Thanks for the recommendation, especially the anti-recommendation for Claro.
