Registering as a foreigner in Brazil

Hello! I arrived in Bras铆lia yesterday from the UK on a temporary 2-year work VISA.

In order to do pretty much anything (CPF, start work) I need to register with the PF.

I found they have suspended most migration services.聽

I'm trying to do things over email but I'm worried this will take a long time.

Has anyone arrived and managed to do this during the pandemic? From what I understand this registration is a pre-requisite for the CPF.

Any advice appreciated

Are you sure you were not placed in the system on arrival at the airport?
I would go to the RF and register. Your ID and passport/visa with an entry stamp should be enough.
I did mine at corrieos, not sure if they still do. BB can help also.
Any BR consulate can issue a CPF.

You're right, re-reading I think I can get my CPF from Correios with just the passport. I'm going to try that today.

I got stamped on arrival, but I believe additional registration is needed to get the ID card.
The company here is trying to work that one out given that migration services are closed.

Welcome to Brazil!

To apply for your CRNM, call the Federal Police (or ask someone at your workplace to call for you, if you don't speak Portuguese), to find out whether they're seeing people on an appointment basis yet.聽 Some FP "Estrangeiros" offices are, and you may be able to schedule the appointment online.

I will have a look for a number for the local federal police, couldn't see one at first look.

CPF is going to be fine.

It seems like every acronym leads to another acronym - PIS/CTPS up next.

Hello Nahum,

I'm in a similar situation in that I can't schedule an appointment with the federal police.

I'll keep you informed as soon as I learn more or resolve the situation.

Hi Jason,

Yeah, I got an email saying send all documents to us, sent them and they said they are analyzing them. Not ideal because I don't know how long that's going to take, but at least they are communicating.

Hopefully able to resolve it soon because I need it for my work contract.聽

However, I did see an article on their website that said normal migration limits are not being followed rigidly at the moment.

My wife and I have been calling the Federal Police in SP for a month, from the USA, trying to make an appointment for my CRNM, they do not answer.聽 We had a relative go there, they are closed with signs up stating you need to make an appointment to go in.聽 Their appointment system is online and required code numbers we do not have.聽 We will be there in early Dec. and totally feel your frustration.

Hi everyone: this is not in reply to this exact issue but I need advice on condo rental. I departed on good terms with the Board. Etc., but now the owner insists the apt should have been painted. The keys are already handed over & advised by the rental co. That all I need to do is clean the place before leaving. I paid a cleaner but is he right about painting the unit also? The office did not mention that. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yes, he is correct.聽 My wife and I have owned rentals in SP for over ten years.聽 We use a wonderful property manager.聽 When anyone moves out the place is totally, 100% clean and freshly painted, every light bulb even works and is checked by the property manager, etc., or the prior tenant is in trouble. In Brazil, unlike in the USA, people go to jail for trashing a rental and leaving one not quite ready to move into is grounds for never being able to rent again or worse.
Pait the apartment and say you are sorry to the owner/manager as you just did not know
