Question on Permanent Residency

kbischoff12
Hi all - any help will be super appreciated.

I moved to Brazil 2.5 years ago on a work visa (VITEM V) with temporary residency. After 2 years, my residency was renewed with my current employer, and I was granted a permanent resident card with a renewal date in 2031. Then, a couple months ago, I married my partner in Brazil who is a Brazilian citizen.

Is my permanent residency linked to my continued employment at my current company? If I were to leave my current company, can I legally stay in Brazil without doing anything until my renewal date in 2031? Or do I need to take some action before 2031 to change the basis of my residency to marriage, instead of employment?

Hopefully this is enough information to get an answer - thanks in advance!

No need to do anything more you can stay legally and can apply naturalization after one year of issue date of permanent residency

Thank you! I also heard back from an immigration consultant who helped me in my transfer here, and they had the same response. Now that I have the permanent resident status I don't need to do anything until my renewal date (or go the naturalization route as you noted).
