R$350.000 gets you a good apartment in either of these cities today.........and it can be much less if you live within an hour north, say, Unamar for example. I prefer Cabo to Arraial.

My wife and I live in Copacabana and spend R$6.000 a month on average.......condo fees, IPTU, electricity, groceries, cell/internet bills, and the occasional tanks of gas.......we eat out pretty much every other day as well.

Don't waste R$80.000 on a car........we use a 14 year old FIAT.......rural roads around the area you are looking are bad, as are the drivers. Buy a cheap used vehicle for 1/2 that amount.

Hope that helps. We make more, and can spend it, but don't see the need.

SUS works well were you want to live......in Rio they are overwhelmed with people........so we pay to see a doctor here if need be.

-- R$7,000 strikes me as little light for a family of three (or more by then?), but a lot depends on the standard of living you plan.聽 That amount can provide a pleasant one, but definitely on the simple side.聽 聽At the very least, with a school-aged child you are probably going to want/need a good private school, and I don't see it fitting in that number.聽 聽You'll probably want private health insurance also, and I don't see it fitting in that number, either.聽 Your idea for some regular remote work may turn out to be more a regular part of your lives than just an option.

-- The moving number depends a great deal on how much you plan to move, but your number strikes me as extremely low.聽 Brazil is very far away and the shipping and customs regulations are complex, so you should definitely talk to several movers who have actually moved people to Brazil from Europe to get a reality check on that estimate.聽 My move from the United States cost around US$20,000, and I didn't move a whole house.

-- The Emergencies number looks good, as long as you keep it replenished.聽

We just spent R$30.800 shipping 18 x 3 cubic foot boxes weighing 740 pounds from Canada to Brasil......FWIW we're a couple of people cleaning out the personal stuff as much as possible. Air tickets one way were another R$20.000.........

Moving costs: The price was based on last years estimates with companies. Roughly the price for shipping from Europe to Brazil, but this will have to be revisited. Flights we would get at a decent price, as we would be using Airmiles which we have accumulated over the last couple of years. The idea indeed would be also to downsize as much as possible and just bring what really will add value.

Income: Thanks for the thoughts, indeed school is something that was on our mind but have not explored it to the full yet. Insurance would be included in the target. With remote working, we don't mind as long as we can move away from the rat race. Maybe we come across some good investment opportunities between now and then, lets see.

Housing: I would be interested in having a property perhaps with a small Annex that could also be utilised as an AirBnB. Once I get to the R$350k, ill start investigating this further.聽

08/01/24 @krautboy88.聽 Again, I'm impressed with your planning, and the generous time horizon that you've allowed yourselves.聽 I would further recommend, when you're between one and two years out from your planned departure date, a reconnaissance trip of two to four weeks to the areas that interest you, just to personally check out the questions like property costs, schools, and healthcare costs that most concern you "on the ground".聽 That would be close enough in to give you a good idea of costs, but far enough out to leave you free to make mid-course corrections.

We will be visiting Arraial do Cabo in May for two weeks and I do intend to look at a few houses around there and in Buzios, and potentially putting some offers in to buy one of them. If they house is right.

Do some of you have some experiences when it comes to both regions? I have visited both in the past, but this is more in terms of living.

Things to consider:

Schools, Healthcare access, Supermarkets, Safety?
