We are immigration lawyers. Our experience is that you will get a first response from the Immigration Department after around 4 months. In most cases, this is when somebody starts to work on your application. However, you can calculate another 4 months until you have fulfilled all requirements. It is recommended to stay in your home country until the visa has been granted as one of the additional requirements could be to present yourself at a Chilean consulate.

Thank you very much for the feedback! I just read an article that SERMIG is looking to reduce the processing time, so I'll have my fingers crossed that they make good on this, but will certainly keep the approx. 8 months in mind for now.

Hi Immigration Consultants,

As you had predicted, I moved from the "Recepcionada y análisis" stage of my application to the next "Resolución" stage some three months after I had applied (26th April and 1st February respectively), however since then I have remained in the resolution stage for the last 3 months, making it a total of 6 months since I submitted the application. I didn't receive any email asking for more information while in the analysis phase, so I am hopeful that this is good news but am wondering why the resolution phase is taking so long - I would love to go to Chile as soon as possible!

I'm aware that I'll have 10 days to appeal in case they plan to reject me, so I check the portal on a daily basis but to date it's been total silence. I've submitted a help request through the immigrations website to ask for an update, however am not very hopeful that they will respond, so I wondered based on your experience, whether you may have any ideas how long applications typically stay in the resolution stage before moving on to the "firma" stage? I don't believe there's any action I can take (beyond logging the help request) however please let me know if I'm mistaken.

For the record I started the temporary residency process in August 2023 under family reunification. In Jan 2024 during the analysis phase I needed to get an additional stamp on my criminal records check at the foreign ministry in Santiago, which I did, after which the status changed pretty quickly to "emmitiendo un resolucion". In July or August 2024 it changed to "firma", then I was finally approved in September 2024.

So end to end the whole process took about 12.5 months, though the need for the extra stamp half way through may have delayed it somewhat.

for those who have received their temporary residence visa this year, do you mind sharing, how many weeks you waited between "firma" and "validacion estampado electronico"?

I finally received my temporary (rentista) visa on 2nd December 2024, exactly 10 months after I had submitted the application on the 1st February 2024. The time between "firma" and "validacion" was 1 day for me (from Friday to the following Monday), so after not having heard anything for 7 months, it suddenly went extremely quickly, however I suspect it might be related to meeting internal targets before the end of the year (given that it was December). yes, I am wondering about this myself.  But I am not applying for a working visa.  I am 72 and applying for a retirement visa.  I wonder if a working visa and a retirement visa take different a mount of times?  Right now, I live in Spokane, WA USA. I have read I would have to get a temporary root number, before I move to Chile and then once settled can get the permanentt root number.
