If he doesn;t plan to go for higher studies even then I would advise you to come for say a 5-6months period if you think your son and yourself can get around with the daily life(which does become boring comparing with life in Manchester) then by all means forget going back to UK and shift to Libya.

Hi Awisa,
Tripoli is a great city. It is best to work on your arabic so that you can communicate more easily with the local population; Libyans know very basic english. The city is not crowded but there are traffic jams and it is recommended not to drive yourself if you don't have experience on Libyan roads (ignore the weird looks and wear your seatbelt). What does your son plan on doing? Universities in Libya are not at good standards so unless he found a job in Libya I don't think there's much for him to do. The Libyan community on social networks is growing fast, perhaps he can try to find friends there before heading off? Libyans spend most of their free time (and there's a lot of free time) chatting over coffee/tea; shopping, site seeing, visiting the beach are some other things you can do. Try to find a hobby, though Tripoli is a lively city it is possible to get bored. Finally, although security is improving and should improve more by 2014 - remember to put your safety first.
