The question is not so much whether your colleague is Malaysian and you Indian, but whether any of you is of Chinese ancestry (or "race"). Also, what other benefits he or you presented to Singapore as a nation and society: Did you volunteer, participate in local social organisations or initiatives (except politics, which is taboo), show exceptional cultural assimilation, etc.?
