Hey everyone! I鈥檓 starting to look for job opportunities in Vietnam and could use some recommendations. If you know any companies or recruiters worth reaching out to, I鈥檇 love the pointers. Not to bore everyone with too many details on my background. I鈥檝e got 20+ years in IT, mostly around cloud, AI/ML, and project/program management. I鈥檓 hoping to start with something remote while I make the move to Vietnam full鈥憈ime - I've been a remote based consultant for over 12 years now. Any leads, intros, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! - @relocation2026
The good news is that Vietnam doesn't really seem to have any problem with you being a remote consultant here, as long as 100% of the income that you are generating is from outside Vietnam, meaning that you cannot be doing any remote consulting with anyone or any business in Vietnam without actually having a business visa and work permit.
You can set a business up and it only costs a few thousand dollars, Plus yearly accounting fees. Then you'd be legal and you'd likely be able to stay here at least a year at a time before your visa needed to be renewed. Depending upon how your business is established you could arrange to be here for up to 3 years at a time, with that being renewable of course. You would also be liable for taxation on your income within Vietnam.
So it might be that the easiest thing will be to live here on 90 day tourist visas which require a visa run outside of the country once every 90 days. As long as all of your income is coming from someplace other than Vietnam, you could easily make that work.
If on the other hand you are focused on becoming employed by a company within Vietnam, then you have the necessity to qualify for an official work permit.
In order to do that, two basic things are always required: Your employer must be able to convince the government that they cannot find a Vietnamese person to do the work they want you to do..
And you are going to have to convince the government that you are fully trained and certified to be capable to fulfill the position.
The problem comes in that you'll need total documentation cleared by the embassy or consulate of Vietnam in your country before you leave to come here to gain employment here.
That would only be after you have determined that you can qualify for a legal position here and there is a legal employer who wants to get a legal work permit to hire you.
So I would maybe use AI and try to be very specific about what it is that you do and what qualifies you to do it. Have the AI model look into whether there is any indication that someone with your qualifications is currently qualified to be hired in Vietnam as a foreigner expert.
Hopefully you can see how those different options would require totally different preparation before ever getting on the plane to come here.
Good luck 馃檹
