I live in PR. and have worked Major projects in PR.聽
Everyone cries about the expensive cost of electricity.
Three times since 1999 PR. has received huge amounts of capital to reduce the cost of power by 50%
#1; 1999 Penuelas gas ducto project . shut down because of protest, when Government officials stole land for the pipeline from the people, and $100 million of $179 million , could not be accounted for.
#2;聽 $11 billion to PREPA / APA, to place All overhead power lines , underground island wide 5 years of planning and zero except small portions of San Juan ever begun.
#3;聽 $511 million for the Nat gas port, shut down 3 months ago after just beginning project less than 2 years ago.

So to keep it simple. Cost of safe, clean, NO COAL fired power plants in Puerto Rico, GONE but already paid for, BUT squandered by Local Politicians.

Yes, we only were without power 24 hours.
I live near Western plaza in Mayag眉ez.
The AEE is very close to me.

Everyone notice that the Jones Act was suspended 2 days ago to facilitate foreign vessels fuel delivery into FL?

I read it was a week long suspension for Puerto Rico, did not hear it was also for florida

Well 20 million people go thru 15million gallons at 1/2 a gallon a piece in about 1 second .
Pulling the trucking restrictions on long distance haulers , is kool , but will only be temp.
As to PR didn't hear that either myself and it makes little difference.

A load of gas stations in PR lied to people about being sold out a week before the storm them stung everyone 2 days before the storm at 4 times a liter of fuel.聽聽Now that needs to be regulated and prosecuted .
Lie for the ones of you who know Rincon , the gas station leaving town on the 412 and 115 corner was caught mixing collected waste oil from multiple gas stations into the fuel he sells .
Paid a $million $ fine never went before聽 a judge ,and never stopped pumping fuel.聽聽 Maybe these things should be resolved .

A good friend of mine, an architect, is a HAM radio freak.

But... the cell phone networks are fully operational, never went down actually. Communication is no problem. Live is almost back to normal. Stores are operational, roads accessible.

The main problem is the crappy state of the electrical grid and the water system. Then again, what's new? It has been bad "forever". I'm completely used to power & water outages and I'm always ready for it.

In this new USA Today article, there are several different photo collages about Irma.

Scroll down to the ones about Irma and Caribe, 48 fotos in all. The best fotos of the horror across the Caribbean, and 5 of Fajardo, PR which I did not realize was hit as hard as the pics show. But nothing compared to the rest.
