Belgium Nationality 2026
@callonafo
The narration of accounts is bizarre. It just doesnt add up.
I think your friend's wife is currently in niveau 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 for reading and writing, respectively, (kindly correct if false) and that is why CVO Antwerp said she needs to attend 5 more classes (her classes probably runs till June 2026) before she can take the NT2 examination. The certificate of the NT2 examination will be her proof of language.
In any case, deelcertificaat equal to or higher than A2 in mondeling and schrijftelijk can be used as proof of language proficiency.
@brla15
She submitted a total of 6 certificates from CVO Antwerpen, yet she was still asked to take an online language test before her nationality application could be accepted.
What makes this confusing is that her husband submitted the same type of certificates during his own application and did not face this issue. She also scored above 80% in each programme.
These are the certificates she submitted:
鈥 Deelcertificaat NT2 Breakthrough publiek (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)
鈥 Deelcertificaat NT2 Breakthrough persoonlijk (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)
鈥 Deelcertificaat NT2 Waystage schriftelijk (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)
鈥 Deelcertificaat NT2 Waystage mondeling (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 1)
鈥 Deelcertificaat NT2 Threshold 1 mondeling publiek (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 2)
鈥 Deelcertificaat NT2 Threshold 2 mondeling publiek (Nederlands tweede taal, Richtgraad 2)
Therefore, I do not know if anyone is facing the same issue similar with Antwerp or Deurne commune regarding nationality applications and language proof?
@callonafo
Thanks for more information. I think I can follow the logic of the ambtenaar. Your friend's wife has niveau 1.2 (A2) in schrijftelijk. Of course the mondeling part has higher level. Both mondeling and schrijftelijk should meet the A2 level.
Since this is the case, the proof of language should be the NT2 test which is, since 2023, taken after niveau 1.2 is done. Deelcertificaat is not accepted for niveau 1.1 and 1.2. Well that is the only logic I can think of.
Whether this is right or wrong is beyond my knowledge at this point.
Dear all,
I鈥檓 planning to apply for Belgian citizenship through the 5-year work/integration route and wanted opinions on my situation.
I currently hold an L card and live in Brussels
My timeline:
1. Employer A: 12/07/2021 鈫 28/08/2022
During this contract, mycareer.be shows 9 days under 鈥渙ther absence鈥 (unpaid leave type).
New employer started on 01/09/2022
So there is a 3-working-day gap: 29, 30, 31 August 2022.
This transition happened during a single permit/employer change process.
I have immigration emails/documents showing the new single permit approval and employer transition process was already ongoing before the previous contract ended.
Then continuous employment after that:
Employer C: 01/09/2022 鈫 20/07/2024
Employer D: 23/07/2024 鈫 20/12/2024
Gap here was only weekend days.
Employer E: 23/12/2024 鈫 present
Additional info:
1. Around 1700 worked days total
2. A2 French certificate
3. No long unemployment periods
4. No CPAS/social assistance
5. Legal residence uninterrupted
6. I don't have social integration however I have registered myself in waiting list at bapa .
My main concern:
1 . Could the 3 weekday gap in Aug 2022 or the 2. 9 unpaid leave days affect the 鈥5 years uninterrupted work鈥 interpretation for Belgian citizenship?
Would appreciate experiences from people who applied in similar situations.
@Vs2802
Hello
I believe that uninterrupted work is not the key factor in your case. The correct requirement is 5 years of uninterrupted residence, not uninterrupted employment.
For someone who has been living in Belgium and has聽 worked聽 uninterruptly for 5 years, there is no need to provide language or social integration certificates.
All the best,
Mai
I have been with the same employer for last 4.5 years but I also have 3 days of unpaid leave showing on the website....does this impact the uninterrupted work and stay?

Note: I have gap of 7 days during first change of employer and 3 days on second change of employer.
Congratulations! I was wondering if Antwerp and Brussels applications are evaluated by different public prosecutors? I assume, no?聽 I applied in Brussels in February, but I haven't heard anything yet, and I was just curious.
@dakbak
Congratulations 馃帄
For Antwerp, your application date of 13 March is the day you applied online? Or you submitted the documents in person?
Hello All,

Thank you for the help.
Will let you know ASAP I got answers
@Jela_zajacar
The procedure explained to me: Etterbeek wants聽 to wait for Parquet ( Prosecutor) to return my decalarion to them....聽
In mail they explained this timing in unknown....
Legaly, they don't deny i got citisenship, they just ask to respect the admistative internal procedures. So.... I cannot complain 馃し馃徎鈥嶁檧锔
My friend in other commune just got registered by聽 commune as no answer is positive with no waiting for decalarion back.
I understood this registration need to be manually entered in the system..
I won't mind waiting, but I need to travel and to start new job. I dont want to ask clients聽 and new company for delay.
But, I will have to count than聽 6 months although this is not guaranteed ( as per my understanding of mail)
If anyone have experience with Etterbeek please share.
Hope helps others

Is the Ontvangstbewijs nationaliteitsverklaring the same as聽 Attest : aanvrag tot verkrijging van de belgische nationaliteit ?? because that's what I have the received the day I applied .
Thanks !
Hi everyone , is the Attest : aanvrag tot verkrijging van de belgische nationaliteit the same as Ontvangstbewijs nationaliteitsverklaring?
@Tanvirul Hoque
Did you get answes from them?
I am already 4 months plus 2 weeks.
Commune asked me to wait 6 months (Etterbeek)
@Vs2802
Hello,
I also had more than 2 months of unpaid leave.
What commune explained me it is ok as long as there is any amout in the that yearly statement of salary.
However, i got language certificate and integration. If you have langauag the integration test is super easy. Just make sure to book on time.
I think it also depends on the reagion you are applaying.
Try to check the Cort issue on the definition of 'uninterrupted work'
This is leageal doc
Here is copy if you could not open
'Important ruling of the Tribunal of First Instance of Brussels on the acquisition of Belgian citizenship by declaration.
The court was called to interpret the concept of 鈥渦ninterrupted work鈥 as a proof of social integration and knowledge of a national language.
Pursuant to Art. 12bis, 搂1鈥, 2掳 of the Code of Belgian Nationality, uninterrupted work during the five years period preceding the citizenship declaration, is deemed proof of integration and knowledge of a national language.
The concept of 鈥渦ninterrupted work鈥 is defined neither by the Belgian Code of Nationality, nor by the Royal Decree of 14 January 2013 implementing the Law of 4 December 2012 amending the Belgian Code of Nationality.
The question was whether interruptions of work due to mandatory administrative procedures following change of employers (i.e., single permit applications), preclude the applicant from being considered to have 鈥渨orked continuously during the last five years as an employed person鈥, within the meaning of Article 12bis, 搂1, 2掳 of the Beige Nationality Code and Article 1, 5掳 of the Royal Decree of 14 January 2013.
The court held that a literal interpretation of the concept of 鈥渦ninterrupted work鈥 would be an unreasonable interpretation of the law, and applied mutatis mutandis the reasoning from a recent decision of the Constitutional Court.
The court concluded that such interruptions which are forced and not chosen, should not preclude the applicant from being deemed to have 鈥渨orked continuously during the last five years as an employed person鈥, provided that the applicant clearly demonstrates that through her/his work, she/he is fully integrated into the Belgian society (in the case at hand, work carried out for four years and three months in aggregate during the five years period, demonstrates integration).'
So change gap should not be a problem.
I just did integration as easier than risk. It is realy 20min test
