Coronavirus and future EU expacts to the U.K.

Hi there,

My parents were to come to the U.K. (from Germany) to live closer to me but with the virus there are no flights so the deadline of the 31st of December seems impossible to meet. I am worried and I can鈥檛 believe nobody has thought of extending it. After the deadline, it seems impossible for them come under the new immigration scheme as it seems to be only for people who work and they have been retired for a while now.

Is anyone in the same situation? Please let me know if there is important information that I have missed?

There is a UK Government document on the matter "EU Settlement Scheme: Impact of Coronavirus"; you can access it yourself by following this .

It contains a whole lot of stuff, but one important section states:

There is still over a year left before the deadline of 30 June 2021 for applications to the EU Settlement Scheme.

The Government has made clear that where a person eligible for leave under the EU Settlement Scheme has reasonable grounds for missing the application deadline, they will be given a further opportunity to apply.

My advice is to check out all the links provided in the reference document until you are confident that you have all the facts (as opposed to non-facts), then if you still feel disadvantaged, contact your MP and request a meeting at his/her surgery and ask for him to raise your individual case with the Home Office.

Indeed, I just made the journey there and back and further, I know that the border between Holland and Germany is open, so they could get a ferry from Hoek van Holland or Europoort.
