Renting in the Lake Chapala Area

kawmx1

I want to keep this post anonymous as I don't want to get sued for liable.  I also write this with a sad heart as I am on my fourth year here and have found the landlords have not only taken advantage of raising the prices sky high causing it to be very difficult for the local people to find housing.

My first two years here were great, but wanting to get a feel for the different towns around Lake Chapala, I have moved a few times.  Two months ago I moved into a casa that many many plumbing defects were covered up and within two days mold was growing all over the bathroom and bedroom walls.  All the plumbing leaks inside and outside.  I have to keep buckets under the bathroom and kitchen sink and the tub leaks within two hours after showering around the base.  After being called a liar and other numerous insults, and this is a real estate company here in Ajijic, I am moving out in two days.  I hired an attorney and she states that the law is totally in favor of the landlords and I should accept my security deposit back and go.  This does not cover my moving expenses from my former place to eight weeks later having to pay packers and movers again.

I am afraid that the Lake Chapala area has come to, "big for it's britches", and even the attitudes seem to reflect a growing dislike of, "Gringos".  Just take this as a warning and be very diligent, not that it seems to matter, when renting.  I would also suggest that anyone consider buying here, do so after renting and have a good attorney who will represent you and not pretend while taking your money to represent the landlord or seller.  Buyer/Renter beware.
