05/11/23 As I read someone else mention the Marriage certificate is holding us up for starting the application. (Permanent Residency by Spouse). My wife has had the paperwork done now, Hopefully next week we can start the filing. Quick question, does this have to be translated and notarized first.

If you're talking about a US Marriage Certificate and you registered the marriage at a Brazilian Consulate, then the Certid茫o de Registro de Casamento Consular that you received from the Consulate should be enough. In fact, if you took the Certid茫o Consular to a cart贸rio in Brazil and were issued a Traslado de Casamento, that serves as your Brazilian Marriage Certificate, and you shouldn't need your US Marriage Certificate at all, or anything other than the Traslado to prove your marriage.

If you have to use your US Marriage Certificate then yes, it will need a Sworn Translation of both the Certificate and the Apostille.

R$100.00 (one hundred Reais) per day, to a maximum of R$10,000 (ten thousand Reais), plus interest if not paid on departure.

@abthree Thanx, I admit I was "Friday the 13th scared" until I got your reply.聽 My wife has all the marriage paperwork, we just need to go to the Cartio and then make an appointment with the FP. I also read that if you were on the passed visa date and you went to the FP with an overstay they would give you 7 days to get your stuff together and leave the country. Also the 6month barred from traveling etc. has me worried the most.

I have money, so that is not an issue it is staying or not staying during this process.

You're the spouse of one Brazilian citizen and the father of another, so I think that the chances of their deporting you on the spot are small, and the chances of their barring you from the country for any length of time are even smaller.聽 Still the chance does exist, so after your documents are in the best condition that you can put them, but ASAP, you should probably approach the PF through an attorney, ideally someone that your wife's family knows well.聽 Follow that person's advice, especially if it includes having your wife at your side at all times, and letting her and the lawyer do most of the talking.聽 聽Fingers crossed!
