Let's discuss something fun for a change.

So there鈥檚 a lot of inexpensive beer in Brazil. Most of the favorites are lagers, served sub zero celcius cold. Many are more popular in certain states or regions. This is due to local taste, advertising and other influences. So todays survey is, 鈥淲hat is your favorite beer?鈥 Here is a list of the usual suspects but, it would be interesting to hear about regional favorites as well. Let鈥檚 skip the imports.

Bohemia

Skol

Brahma

Itaipava

Kaiser

08/11/24 @ bepmoht.聽 Great idea!聽 I love me my Bohemia, and I think that the 600 ml bottle, "estupidamente gelada", is the perfect way to drink beer.

There's an excellent craft beer from Santa Catarina called Saint that comes in several varieties.聽 I got to know it in Foz do Igua莽u, and sometimes we can get it here in the North.聽 Whenever we can, I stock up.

Same for Louvada from Cuiab谩, Mato Grosso.聽 Several varieties, reasonable price, available lots of places.

We have a good craft brewery in Manaus, named rather predictably Rio Negro.聽 Their beers tend to be named after Amazonian deities, with a little story on the label.聽 Most popular are two Pilsners, Yahu and Muir谩 and a wheat beer, S盲,

Thanks for the input. Yes,聽 it鈥檚 interesting to see how the craft brewing craze is previlent in Brazil. Afterall,聽 Brazilian鈥檚 do love their beer!

Bohemia as cold as possible !!!

The wife and I are buying an apt in Petropolis and the 2-3 streets we like are 2-3 blocks away from the brewery. I did a tour there in January, very cool.

I didn't know Petropolis was Bohemia鈥檚 home.聽 Rumor has it, German immigrants did the original paved road up there. Lovely town.

Good enough for government work! 馃ぃ聽 paralelep铆pedo.

@bepmoht My go to Brasilian Beer is 础苍迟谩谤迟颈肠补 Original, then if there is a happy hour聽 Brahma Chopp (out of a tap, not the bottle labeled version).聽 If Original isn't available I'll get an Eisenbahn, Bohemia, Regular 础苍迟谩谤迟颈肠补 or Itaipava (in that order).聽 Brahma and Skol are tolerable, but Nova Schin, Kaiser, Crystal are a hard pass.

Here in Fernandopolis we got Imperio. It's pretty similar to Mexican Corona I find.聽 There are a bunch of others here alot.of what others have mentioned...need more time to investigate them.

If you get a chance, try Eisenbahn Pilsen Pura Malte UNFILTERED. Not easy to find, but worth it...

Tried a Bohemia Puro Malte at the bus stop on my way back to Pancas Sunday. It was a darn good beer. Very refreshing. The flavor rang true to the last drop. Not skunky at all. I鈥檒l have to see if I can procure some more samples locally.

It's good, isn't it ?

I love it when it is ice cold on a hot day.

That is our favourite one here!

Just tried a Stella Artois 鈥淧ure Gold鈥 sem gluten as the local grocer insisted. The flavor is OK, but it lacks body. Kinda watery for my taste. The bottle is a nice shape.

Kinda reminds me of Heineken..聽 It鈥檚 an AMBEV beer.

"Watery" nails it perfectly!

My friends laugh and tease (they are Heineken snobs 1f602.svg) , but give me a nice cold Brahma. I like the price.聽 But if you're buying, I like pretty much anything you recommend. 1f609.svg

Yes, I'll drink almost anything your offering. But I'm not a big fan of wheat beers. We'll miss the ice code chopp from a tap when we leave next month. Nothing like watching the ice slide down the side of your mug before you take this first refreshing gulp.

Sidenote: when I lived in West Berlin as a teenager, I remember a Berliner chastising us Americans for drinking our beer too cold. I bet he had never was served beer in Brazil -- nor me at that time! Any other Alem茫es out there who think Brazilian beer is too cold?1f923.svg1f923.svg

My oldest brother is a 鈥漈epid鈥 temperature beer drinker. I guess it could be argued its more flavorful, but in the tropics, COLD is King for me.

In the UK, I always enjoy a fresh draw of Bitter/"Real Ale" at "Cellar Temperature", but never a Lager or a Pilsner whether on tap or out of a bottle.聽 Especially in this climste.

Tried the Antartica Original today. A bit watery for my taste. However, it held up well. Not skunky at all. If it was crazy cold, it would probably go down quickly. So far in my taste testing, the Bohemia is holding the top spot in the beers i鈥檝e found in my local.

For me, there's a bitter undertaste in Original that I don't enjoy.聽 Not skunky, and not hoppy -- "bitter" is the best description I can come up with.聽 Still, if the choice is between Original and one of the pseudo-imports (Heineken, Amstel, Budweiser, Spaten, etc.) give me Original every time.

@abthree does spaten leave an after taste in your mouth? I find for me all the pilsner do.

Antarctica original update: As suspected, crazy cold helps this beers legs. So far in my local taste test from TINYTOWN, this is number 2.

Spaten definitely does for me.聽 That's why I avoid it.聽

I had so much beer during my college days that my system only accepts a limited amount these days - and Brahma chopp is good enough for me.

For fun, can anyone recommend a good brazilian red wine?聽 I heard that Don Guerino 鈥楥emento鈥 Red Blend 2022 is worth trying.

Is there also a place that offers wine tours in Brazil?聽 I suspect that this would be in RS or SC - where the weather is cooler....

Good subject.

I just landed in Rio an hour ago.

Walking out the door now to drink a beer and have dinner.

I had a Pizzato Merlot recently that I really enjoyed, though I don't usually like Merlots.

Fam铆lia Lazaretti is a tiny vineyard near Gramado in a beautiful valley of vineyards. The Malbec was my favorite.

Not this time. Too far to walk as I was literally exhausted. Went to a simple botequim a block from our condo for chopp and petiscos.......

FWIW I just went grocery shopping and in Extra (a supermarket chain) they have cerveja Bohemia in 473ml cans (tall cans) for R$3,67.........about .65 cents US or .87 cents CAD each........the food we also bought was, in general, about 1/3 the cost of a supermarket back in Canada.

Bohemia is better in long neck bottles than cans!
