New I.D. card rules

|The chap in front of me had lost his card or聽 it had been stolen on the bus which he applied for in April and received 2 weeks ago.
He got the police report as requested both at the office and online and som new photos after waiting 2 and a half hours ( I arrived at 9.30 ,in the interim 45 minutes it had filled up drastically)
This chap was seen and after handing in his stuff was told " sorry but this isn't sufficient it needs to be a whole new application " "what ? a whole new form? all the photocopies and another 6 months wait with expensive buses" ? She, a rather pretty but perceptibly deadly medusa snarled "yes, next" in that petrifyingly quiet way only truly scary women possess.
The meek little chap took his stuff apologised and walked away tail twixt legs. I'd a fought like a cornered badger but he just glazed over, shrugged and walked off.
Anyway I was the next and smiled my most beautific smile
she wasn't terribly wowed by this I sensed.Anyway she took my things ( I took everything even birth certificates, college degrees a jim'll fix it badge and my own ultrasound scan, I was a lovely looking foetus聽 ) and apart from only having the original RHA certificate which I'd picked up 20 minutes before arrival , everything went through rather easily.
The main problems I can see at the moment is if people take originals they don't accept them even if you don't want to keep them. This delays things a lot as they have to walk out of the room down the corridor talking to colleagues about the cute security guard ( monstrous muscles but she is pretty) while downing several severe americanos in one large cup.
We waited 25 minutes for 1 persons copies to come back.
She was on her own and a lot of people were waiting.
This wasn't dedicated to new applications any body with any question or to just pick up a form ( why they don't have a stack at the back of the room is beyond me) were waiting to be seen, all sent in by Deidre the burleyesque security guard.
No one had been given a ticket so you walked in and had the usual pushers in, pure bedlam, not today I organised people from front to back as soon as I got there and taught them all to glare at any new comers. Again there was a huge box and loose packets of tickets on top of a filing cabinet?!?
Also they are no longer taking photographs and you definitely have to take your own in they ask for 2 but throw one straight back at you, " could I keep the other one please it has a blemish on it"? "Acne" "no they're the same just this ones marked a bit" she expertly flicked it through the talking slot like a ninja Death Star and plucked the other one out of my fingers faster than a mantis.
I was growing to like her.
That is until I asked for a receipt. " you can go that's it" "I'd like a receipt please as I need to get my child into school" the colour was immediately sucked out of the room and a short toed eagle ( the last survivor from the flock that had been blasted to death in the national park) died in mid air and landed on her desk.
She swept it aside, "we no longer give receipts"
"I'm not leaving until I get one" ( I've dealt with her type before
)She saw I was playing her game and was deadly serious, "I'll give you a written one it won't have a number on it but when I stamp on it it is usually accepted by the education system"
I gave her my best paddington bear stare and said " I don't like the word *usually*"
She responded " I don't care" and stamped my paper receipt.
"NEXT"
I think , as I was about to leave I looked back and saw her almost smile. I'm going to ask her to the cinema when I go to pick my card up in the 3 to 4 months which she quoted today. If she says no then there's always Deirdre聽 the guard.
Anyway the moral of the story is do not lose your card when you receive it and watch for pickpockets especially when stood up on buses as this chap found out to his eternal chagrin.

Are you referring to the building where we used to go to get the ID cards at the very end of Valletta?
That would be great if that was the case, actually. I am hesitating to change apartments because I never ever want to go back to Castille.

Yes its the building where the old ID cards were issued.
Please understand that there is no such thing as a competent authority in Malta! so we make do with what we have.

Thank for this update on the ever lengthening catalogue of illegalities in connection with the EU-funded 'e-Residence Card' scheme.
|You do have to be insistent I was the only one given a receipt and that's because I was firm so everyone else has left with a potential聽 4 months of not knowing whether the paperwork and precious document copies have been filed on her聽 right ( the fast track pile ) Or her left ( the paper shredder)
How old is your son mines 10 and is coming out in the next few weeks if they are a similar age would be great for them to meet as he will know no one.

Byron , yes it's difficult but maltas tiny Microsystem just isn't suited for following expected rules I don't think it ever will be, some things are refreshing like a complete lack of health and safety following, ( until your clonked聽 on the head by a sandstone block or dead eagle.
Other things are very tiresome but there are ways around them?

It would help to wear a suit jacket, slim fit whte shirt and a thick edinborough knotted tie this will confuse her even more because she'll think your from the ministry of magic ( any ministry will do) this will bring on hot flushes and confusion and you may even be able to get your card there and then.
Or just say " I know Muskrat" even though you've said it wrong she'll still think your connected and will give you her own maltese identity card.
Just don't do all 3 or her head will explode thus rendering her useless for our date

As a prospective resident (not a tourist) you have only 20 days from the time your car comes off the ferry to start the registration process otherwise you will be levied hefty fines. Firstly look at the Transport for Malta website to get a broad idea of what they require from you. Then take some time and look up the questions and answers in the Car & Transportation category on this blog - it is very informative, you'll notice bringing a car over is a complex process
I suggest you make notes as you read the information - your starting point in your notes would be obtaining a JEVIC odometer verification certificate while you are still in the UK.聽 The information even includes remembering to keep your ferry receipt safe so you can prove you brought your car into Malta!
