Health Insurance

Hello
I've been living in Portugal for three months. When I had my SEF interview one of the criteria I had to obtain health Insurance. I did this through IMG which cost 2000.00 dollars. I now have my first SEF interview and have been told I have to have a Portuguese health Insurance. I've been on some sites and they are quoting upwards of 5.000 euros'. My age is 77 years. Do you have any suggestions?

After a certain age, insurance companies are no longer interested to insurance or they increase the monthly fee considerably. Try MGen, there is no age limit.

Get a quote by clicking on the "simule já" button.
You have reasonable options there between 1000 and 3000 eur / year.

Hi John
I agree with JohnnyPT
We are with mgen & yes there is no age limit & they cover you until either you cancel or you depart the earth, this is our second year with them & we are happy with them, I’d def give them a bell.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

With this insurance do you have to pay for the service first and then they reimburse you or are there service providers who accept your insurance and MGEN pays them directly?
Hi Andrew
I’m not sure about that your best bet is to ring them & ask, if I was to guess I would say that you prob have to pay first then get reimbursed also MGEN give you a list of hospitals, clinics etc that they have their insurance with, we haven’t used them yet we have been with them for about 18 months.
Sorry couldn’t be of anymore help but honestly what have got to loose by ringing them & asking them all your questions that’s what I did & am glad I did
Good luck

I just had a look for me and my wife (one slightly above and one slightly below 60) to compare with Medis and I was surprised how expensive MGEN is. Is MGEN the only insurance that accepts clients of advanced age? Does JohnnyPT know?
