One must have full medical cover, without even any co payments, and certainly not with any exclusions (pre-existing conditions)聽 to apply for EU Citizen Registration.聽

You say you have taken up residency聽 .聽 聽

Do you mean you have registered and have your green paper certificate,聽 or that you are just living here, in effect, illegally, under the radar聽 ?

There is EU registration for EU citizens and RESIDENCIA for non EU citizens

Nevertheless,聽 someone made an error in your case.

I work at a national police station and regularly people who do not have 100%聽 insurance are not permitted to register.聽

聽 The law states that very clearly and applies to EU and non EU nationals.聽

For the benefit of others,聽 be aware of that requirement,聽 and do not bank on others getting it wrong

I have finally been granted my Certificate of Residency , the little green card ( also incorrectly called Residencia) l just want to give others the heads up on the medical insurance requirement here in Gran Canaria, it might not apply in Mainland Spain but the beaurocracy here will only allow the application to be completed if you have proof of medical insurance that runs from January to December and has to be paid all up front on Jan 1st , no monthly payments are allowed and no policy excess payments either, I am annoyed that I took out cover from Sept 2018 but the 4months up to 31stDec were not taken into account.
That aside I was informed that the cover HAD to start from 1st Jan for the year , and if it was taken out after January because it wouldn鈥檛 be for 12months it was unlikely that I would be granted the Certificate, also the invoice from my medical company had to be backed up by the bank statement from where it was paid from !
It has been a totally frustrating situation that I feel will only become more complicated after March .
I have heard of many people that have moved here and have lived happily under the radar so to speak because they have only rented a property and haven鈥檛 bought a vehicle and more importantly haven鈥檛 required any medical treatment, I鈥檝e wanted to do everything legal and have finally got there ,but it鈥檚 been a long hard struggle, good luck to anyone trying to move here !
